Women’s Golf to Compete in 2025 National Golf Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team is set to compete in the National Golf Invitational, held at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club from May 9-11 in Maricopa, Arizona.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team is set to compete in the National Golf Invitational, held at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club from May 9-11 in Maricopa, Arizona.

UNCG has finished fifth or better in eight of its 11 total events this season, including a recent fourth-place finish at The Southern Conference (SoCon) Championship in West Columbia, South Carolina.

The Spartans won their first tournament since the 2011-12 season after placing first in the Puerto Rico Shootout in Humacao, Puerto Rico, on March 6. UNCG also earned a runner-up finish hosting the UNCG Collegiate from Oct. 21-22, which saw senior Ava Romfo win the individual title.

THE FORMAT
The National Golf Invitational is a three-day, three-round tournament with a total of 10 teams. There will be one round on each day teeing off at 7:00 a.m. MT / 10:00 a.m. ET.

LAST TIME OUT FOR UNCG

  • The Spartans finished in fourth place at the 2025 SoCon Championship at Solina Golf Club in West Columbia, South Carolina.
  • The Spartans' fourth-place finish was the best in a conference tournament since the 2013 SoCon Championship, when UNCG finished third with a final score of 903.
  • The Spartans placed fourth out of the nine teams from the conference at 57-over-par (921) after posting round scores of 303-314-304.
  • UNCG finished seven strokes ahead of ETSU (928) and three shy of Mercer (918).
  • Furman won the title at 34-over-par (898) after rounds of 295-305-298.
  • The Spartans were fourth in the tournament when competing on par fives, shooting one-over-par as a team with a 5.01 stroke average.
  • UNCG finished third in the tournament on par fours at 53-over-par with a 4.44 stroke average.
  • UNCG ended the tournament tied for second with one eagle, thanks to Romfo scoring one on the third hole in the final round.
  • They also were fourth with 143 pars and fifth with 26 birdies.

 
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS

  • The Spartans own a national rank of 112th with a 298 scoring average.
  • UNCG took home first in the Puerto Rico Shootout, hosted by Ball State from March 4-5 at the Flamboyan Course at Palmas del Mar Golf Club in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
  • It marked the Spartans first tournament win since the Palmetto Intercollegiate from Oct. 23-24, 2011, at Oak Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
  • UNCG broke the single-round tournament record for the Golfweek Fall Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, on Sept. 9 in round two by shooting a 13-under-par (271). The Spartans later finished third in the event.
  • The Spartans finished fourth or better in four of their first five tournaments back in the fall.
  • The Spartans finished fourth in the Clemson Invitational on Aug. 26 at Walker Course in Clemson, South Carolina, to begin the fall.
  • UNCG also tied for third in the Pirate Collegiate Classic from Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Greenville, North Carolina.
  • Sophomore Kasey McIlvaine is first on the squad and seventh in the SoCon, averaging 74.33 strokes per round. She tied for seventh at nine-over-par (225) in the SoCon Championship after carding rounds of 74-77-74.
  • Romfo is second on the team and eighth in the SoCon with a 74.74 stroke average.
  • Freshman Lulu Leetham is 18th in the league at a 75.91 stroke average.
  • Leetham led the Spartans to their tournament win at the Puerto Rico Shootout by tying for second at four-under-par (140) in the two-round shortened event.
  • Freshman Sophie Lauture is tied for 24th in the SoCon, averaging 76.29 strokes per round.
  • Sophomore Elle Burnette is 26th in the SoCon, averaging 76.39 strokes per round.
  • Junior Julia Baeumken is 27th in the conference with a 76.79 average.
  • The Spartans have three newcomers this season, including freshmen Leetham and Lauture as well as a sophomore transfer from Marshall in McIlvaine.
