Women’s Golf to Close Out Regular Season at ECU Ironwood Invitational
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team is set to compete in its final tournament of the regular season, the ECU Ironwood Invitational hosted by East Carolina on Monday and Tuesday at Ironwood Golf and Country Club in Greenville, North Carolina.
This is the fifth of five regular season tournaments for the Spartans this spring. UNCG has finished fifth or better in six of its nine total events so far since the start of the fall. It included capping the autumn slate with a runner-up finish while hosting the UNCG Collegiate, which saw senior Ava Romfo win the individual title.
The Spartans won their first tournament since the 2011-12 season after placing first in the Puerto Rico Shootout in Humacao, Puerto Rico, on March 6. UNCG was led by freshman Lulu Leetham, who was named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Women's Golfer of the Week on March 12, after she tied for second in the field of 82 golfers.

THE FORMAT
The ECU Ironwood Invitational will be a two-day and 54-hole tournament with 17 teams participating. There will be two rounds on Monday with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. The tournament will conclude with round three on Tuesday, featuring a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. There will be no playoffs or tiebreakers. Co-Champions will be named, if required.

LAST TIME OUT FOR UNCG
- The Spartans finished 88-over-par (952) for an 11th-place finish at the City of Oaks Collegiate in Raleigh, North Carolina, from March 21-22, shooting 43-over-par (331) in round one, a 16-over-par (304) in round two and 28-over-par (316) in round three.
- UNCG made a jump from 15th place to a tie for 10th during the second round on day one before finishing 11th after the third round on day two of the tournament.
- UNCG ranked sixth as a team with 23 birdies during the three rounds.
- The Spartans were at their best on par-three holes, averaging 3.25 strokes on par threes, which tied for ninth in the tournament.
- UNCG finished 11 strokes ahead of the only other SoCon school in the tournament, Western Carolina, which finished 14th at 99-over-par (963).
- The host for this week's event, East Carolina, won the City of Oaks Collegiate at 22-over-par (886).
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
- UNCG took home first in the Puerto Rico Shootout, hosted by Ball State from March 4-5 at the Flamboyan Course at Palmas del Mar Golf Club in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
- It marked the Spartans first tournament win since the Palmetto Intercollegiate from Oct. 23-24, 2011, at Oak Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
- UNCG broke the single-round tournament record for the Golfweek Fall Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, on Sept. 9 in round two by shooting a 13-under-par (271). The Spartans later finished third in the event.
- The Spartans finished fourth or better in four of their first five tournaments back in the fall.
- The Spartans finished fourth in the Clemson Invitational on Aug. 26 at Walker Course in Clemson, South Carolina, to begin the fall.
- UNCG also tied for third in the Pirate Collegiate Classic from Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Greenville, North Carolina.
- Sophomore Kasey McIlvaine leads the squad and is seventh in the SoCon, averaging 74.00 strokes per round.
- Romfo is second on the team and right behind McIlvaine in the SoCon at eighth with a 74.14 stroke average.
- Senior Grace Holcomb is third on the team and 15th in the conference with a 75.40 stroke average.
- Sophomore Elle Burnette stands at fourth for UNCG, averaging 75.58 strokes per round.
- UNCG's two freshmen, Sophie Lauture and Leetham, are at 22nd and 23rd in the SoCon with 76.00 and 76.06 stroke averages, respectively.
- Junior Julia Baeumken is 25th in the conference with a 76.50 average.
- The Spartans have three newcomers this season, including freshmen Leetham and Lauture as well as a sophomore transfer from Marshall in McIlvaine.
