Women’s Soccer Draws The Citadel 1-1
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team drew The Citadel, 1-1, in Greensboro, North Carolina, at UNCG Soccer Stadium on Thursday night. Bryanna Parkes scored in the 82nd minute, but a late Bulldogs goal tied the match before the end of regulation.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNCG and The Citadel each took its time to settle into the match with neither side dominating possession nor making sustained offensive progress. However, at the 20-minute mark the Spartans' offense began to come alive. UNCG closed out the half, taking four shots to The Citadel's zero while maintaining 55 percent possession. However, after many chances, the first half ended in a nil-nil score line.
The second half saw a renewed offensive push from both teams as they combined for five shots in the first 15 minutes of action. UNCG continued to prod at the Bulldogs' defense but couldn't find an opening until the 82nd minute. Parkes collected a rebound off The Citadel keeper and lobbed a shot over the defense to open the tally at 1-0. This was Parkes's first collegiate goal of her career. The Bulldogs made a series of substitutions to try and find the equalizer late. In the 84th minute, The Citadel found a goal from a headed corner kick to even up the score at 1-1. UNCG tried to rally late to find another goal, but the Bulldogs' defense held strong to end the match at a 1-1 draw.
