Michael Named SoCon Freshman of the Year, Six Earn All-SoCon Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Macy Michael of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Freshman of the Year and tabbed to Second Team and All-Freshman Team. In addition, Betsy Eatmon, Kaylyn Belfield, Grace Loftin and Jorde Chartrand were all selected to the All-Conference First Team, while Hadley Gardner was selected to the All-Freshman Team, the league office announced Tuesday.

SoCon Announces Softball Postseason Awards

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Macy Michael of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Freshman of the Year and tabbed to Second Team and All-Freshman Team. In addition, Betsy Eatmon, Kaylyn Belfield, Grace Loftin and Jorde Chartrand were all selected to the All-Conference First Team, while Hadley Gardner was selected to the All-Freshman Team, the league office announced Tuesday.
 
Michael is the fourth Spartan in program history to be named SoCon Freshman of the Year. The last time a Spartan was named SoCon Freshman of the Year was in 2021 when Morgan Scott earned the feat.
 
The Spartans concluded the 2025 regular season 38-16 overall and 14-6 in the SoCon.
 
As a team, UNCG is leading the conference in hits (438), home runs (77), home runs per game (1.43), on base percentage (0.388), RBI per game (5.70), RBI (308), scoring (6.00), slugging percentage (0.532), runs (324), sacrifice flies (19) and walks (184).
 
The squad is 11th nationally in home runs, 16th in home runs per game, 21st in sacrifice bunts, 27th in total RBI, 27th in slugging percentage, 35th in RBI per game, 38th in sacrifice flies, 40th in total runs, 41st in hits, 45th in walks and 46th in scoring.

Betsy Eatmon

  • Third on the Spartans with two triples.
  • Notched 121 putouts so far this season.
  • Recorded 13 runs, 32 hits, six doubles, 23 RBI and 48 total bases.

Kaylyn Belfield  
All-SoCon First Team 
Junior | Kannapolis, N.C.

  • Leads the Spartans and is second in the SoCon with a .425 batting average.
  • Paces the team with 12 stolen bases and nine sacrifice bunts.
  • Fifth on the team with 35 runs and 134 at-bats.
  • Second on the squad with 57 hits and two triples.

Grace Loftin 
All-SoCon First Team 
Senior | Conover, N.C.

  • Paces the team with 44 runs, 59 hits, 13 doubles, three triples, 51 RBI, 117 total bases, .727 slugging percentage and 26 walks.
  • Leads the conference in homers, slugging percentage and total bases.
  • Second in the league with a 0.24 homers per game average.
  • Third in the SoCon in RBI.
  • Recorded 17 total multi-hit and 14 multi-RBI games this season.

Jorde Chartrand 
All-SoCon First Team

  • SoCon Pitcher of the Week (March 17).
  • Third in the SoCon with a 2.04 ERA.
  • Second in the conference with a 5.05 hits allowed average.
  • Second on the Spartans with a .631 slugging percentage, 35 RBI and 82 total bases.
  • Third on the team with a .354 batting average, 46 hits and nine doubles.

Hadley Gardner

UP NEXT
With the doubleheader sweep and Chattanooga winning its series against ETSU, 2-1, the Spartans will have the second seed in the 2025 SoCon Softball Championship, presented by One Spartanburg. The Tournament will take place from May 7-10 at Hope Field, hosted by Wofford, in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
 
UNCG will face the winner of No. 3 Samford vs. No. 7 ETSU/No. 6 Western Carolina on Thursday, May 8 at 1:00 p.m.
