Five from Softball Earn Academic All-District® Honors
2025 CSC Academic All-District Softball Teams
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team had five Spartans named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC), formerly CoSIDA, Academic All-District® team for softball, announced by the organization on Tuesday.
To be eligible, nominated student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average in their second year at the current institution and must have played in at least 90 percent of the team's games or start in 66 percent of the team's games.
Senior Grace Loftin earned her third recognition, while classmates Jessie Shipley, Reese Byrd and junior Salem Ward earned their second, while sophomore Betsy Eatmon received her first award from the organization.
UNCG's five honorees brought The Southern Conference (SoCon) total to 29 awardees. Five were from Chattanooga, five from Furman, five from Mercer, five from Western Carolina and four from Wofford.

- She led the team this season in home runs (14), RBI (53), doubles (13), triples (3), runs scored (46) total bases (121), slugging percentage (.712) and walks (29)
- In the SoCon, her 14 homers and .718 slugging percentage were second, her 53 RBI and 46 runs were fourth, her 29 walks were fifth, her 13 doubles and 60 hits were sixth and her .353 batting average and .448 on-base percentage were eighth
- Started and played in 57 games this season, while putting up career numbers in batting average, slugging percentage, at-bats, runs, hits, triples, home runs, total bases and RBI
Jessie Shipley

- Had 10 multi-hit games and eight multi-RBI games this season
- Started in 51 games and played in 54 this season with 48 of her starts being at shortstop
- Saw career numbers in slugging percentage (.548), at-bats (157) and runs scored (38)
- Among the team, she was second in doubles, third in home runs, runs scored, walks and fourth in RBI
- In the SoCon, she was tied for fifth in home runs, 10th in runs scored, 11th in slugging percentage and tied for 14th in doubles
Reese Byrd

- Made 13 game starts with 27 appearances in the circle this season
- In 83.1 innings tossed this season, she struck out 49 batters
- Matched a career-high 11 wins this season, bringing her career record to 27-8
- Threw five complete games, for a career total of 13
- In the SoCon, she was tied for fifth in wins, 13th in strikeouts per seven innings (4.1) and complete games (5), 15th in innings pitched and 16th in strikeouts
Salem Ward

- 2x CoSIDA Academic All-District® team (2024, 2025)
- Made 17 game starts with 37 appearances in the circle this season
- In 136.2 innings tossed this season, she struck out a career-best 91 batters
- Had career numbers in ERA (2.71), innings pitched, strikeouts, shutouts (3), complete games (7), wins (15) and saves (3)
- In the SoCon, she was second in wins, tied for third in saves, fifth in innings pitched and shutouts, sixth in strikeouts, ninth in ERA and complete games and 10th in strikeouts per seven innings
- Earned her first career shutout with a 3-0 win over Merrimack on Feb. 13
- Struck out a season-high 10 batters twice this season, first in a 3-0 win over Merrimack and then again the next day against the Warriors with a 6-1 win
Betsy Eatmon

- Had six multi-RBI games and 10 multi-hit games this season
- Started in 40 games this season, while playing in 48 total with 35 starts behind the plate
- Saw career numbers in batting average (.295), on-base percentage (.389), runs scored (13), hits (33), doubles (6), triples (2) and walks (17)
- Among the team, she was tied for second in triples, sixth in batting average, seventh in doubles and walks, and eighth in hits
The 2024 Academic All-District® Softball Team, announced by CSC, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-June.
