Gallagher Earns Singles Win in Women’s Tennis Loss to Wofford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Olivia Gallagher of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team earned a singles win on Tuesday as the team fell 6-1 to the Wofford Terriers at the UNCG Tennis Courts in The Southern Conference (SoCon) play.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Olivia Gallagher of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team earned a singles win on Tuesday as the team fell 6-1 to the Wofford Terriers at the UNCG Tennis Courts in The Southern Conference (SoCon) play.

"We played some very good singles in the top two positions," said Head Coach Mat Iandolo. "I'm very proud of Olivia's big win at court one."

Wofford tallied the first point of the day after notching all three doubles contests. Brianna Wilbur and Chloe Elliott defeated Elisabeth Birkevold and Ella Olexa, 6-1, on court three. Lily Woods and Breda Brannan notched a 6-0 win over Gallagher and Lauren Thomson on court one to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead. Sydney Bly and Raegan Mitchell put up a fight on court two, but Catherina Blouin and Grace Agster were able to grant Wofford the final doubles contest, 6-4.

The Terriers continued their pace into singles play by notching the first five games to clinch the match. Blouin gave Wofford a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Birkevold on court four. Woods defeated Bly, 6-3, 6-1, on court three before Agster clinched the match for the Terriers in a 6-1, 6-3, win over Olexa on court five. Wilbur kept the momentum going for the Terriers to secure a 6-3, 7-6 matchup with Thomson on court two. Elliott got the final point of the day for the Terriers after notching a 6-3, 6-4 win over Luna Urso on court six. Gallagher put UNCG on the board with a 7-5, 3-6, 11-9 battle over Brenan on court one. However, Wofford was able to walk away with the 6-1 win.
