Sweet Tabbed to Preseason All-Conference Team; Volleyball Picked to Finish Fifth
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Sophomore outside hitter Allie Sweet of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team was voted to The 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) Preseason All-Conference Team, while the team was selected to finish the season in a tie for fifth place with Chattanooga, the league announced Thursday.
The preseason pick of fifth place is the best for the squad since 2018 when the team was also picked to finish that season in fifth place.
Wofford was picked to finish first in the Preseason Coaches' Poll with five first-place votes, while Samford was tabbed to finish in second with three votes for first-place.
Sweet's preseason nod comes after being named SoCon Freshman of the Year, while also being voted to the All-SoCon First Team and All-Freshman Team last season. It was the first time in UNCG program history that a volleyball Freshman of the Year also earned a spot on both the All-SoCon First Team and All-Freshman Team.
The Woodstock, Georgia, native was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week twice in 2024. She concluded the season leading the conference with a 4.16 kills per set average.
UNCG recorded an 8-22 overall record and 2-14 mark in the SoCon last season. The team defeated No. 8 Western Carolina in the first round of the SoCon Tournament, 3-0, for its first match win in postseason play since 2017. However, the season was concluded with a 3-0 loss to No. 1 Mercer in the SoCon Quarterfinal round.
The Spartans will host Wingate on Friday at 6:00 p.m. in Fleming Gym for an exhibition match before the start of the regular season.
