Volleyball Heads to Wilmington for UNCW Invitational
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team will head to Wilmington, North Carolina, to take on the UNC Wilmington (UNCW) Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Spartans will face Charlotte, UNCW and West Georgia over the two-day event in Hanover Hall.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
- UNCG went 1-2 at the Campbell Invitational last weekend in Buies Creek, North Carolina.
- The Spartans defeated Norfolk State, 3-0, on Friday, but fell to Gardner-Webb, 0-3, and Campbell, 1-3, on Saturday.
- Allie Sweet led the Spartans offensively last week with 42 kills and a 4.20 kills per set average.
- Siena Smiejek notched a career-best eight blocks in the team's match against Campbell Saturday night.
- Gabby Seeds was the leading setter for the Spartans last week after recording 77 assists and averaging 9.63 assists per set in eight sets played.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
- UNCG comes into the third weekend of non-conference play with a 4-2 overall record.
- The Spartans began the 2025 season going 3-0 in the 2025 Spartan Classic.
- The Spartans knocked off Queens, 3-1, Sacred Heart, 3-0, and Gardner-Webb, 3-1, to open the 2025 season in Fleming Gymnasium.
- UNCG is fourth nationally with an 18.14 digs per set average.
- The Spartans are leading The Southern Conference (SoCon) in aces per set (1.81), assists per set (12.43), digs per set (18.14), hitting percentage (.217) and attacks per set (38.05).
- Sweet is currently leading the nation with a 13.57 attacks per set average.
- She leads the league in attacks per set (13.57), points (106.0) and points per set (5.05).
- Chole Nussbaum is second in the country and leads the SoCon with a 6.05 digs per set per average. She also leads the SoCon in total digs at 127.
- Robin Rosser paces the conference with a 0.57 aces per set average and 12 total aces.
- Sweet was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, while Nussbaum earned SoCon Defensive Player of the Week in the first round of SoCon weekly awards in the 2025 season.
- The 2025 squad features 10 returners and six newcomers. Out of the six newcomers four are transfer students and two are freshmen.
- UNCG was picked to finish the SoCon regular season in a tie for fifth place with Chattanooga.
- Sweet was selected to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team.
- Sweet's preseason nod comes after being named SoCon Freshman of the Year, while also being voted to the All-SoCon First Team and All-Freshman Team last season.

- Charlotte heads down to Wilmington with a 3-3 overall record this season.
- The Niners dropped their first three matches of the season at the Winthrop Invitational before most recently sweeping the Blue Ridge Volleyball Classic last weekend.
- Charlotte defeated Bradley, 3-1, on Friday before earning wins over College of Charleston, 3-1, and SoCon foe Western Carolina, 3-0, on Saturday.
- Charlotte is seventh in the country in digs per set (17.59).
- The 49ers lead the American Conference in digs per set (17.59) and attacks per set (37.64).
- Annika Thompson is ranked 11th nationally and first in the league with a 5.36 digs per set average. Her 118 total digs leads the American Conference.
- Kristen Birmingham paces the American in kills per set (4.41) and points per set (5.07).
- Birmingham was named to the 2025 American Preseason All-Conference Team.
- Charlotte was picked to finish the 2025 American Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll in a tie for 11th place with North Texas.
- Head Coach Benavia Jenkins is in her first season with the Niners.

- The Seahawks come into the weekend still looking for their first win on the 2025 season as the team is 0-6 overall.
- The team opened its season with its first home tournament of the season falling to Lindenwood, 1-3, Virginia Tech, 0-3, and NC Central, 1-3.
- UNCW most recently traveled to Statesboro, Georgia, where the team dropped matches to Georgia Southern, 0-3, Mercer, 0-3, and Pacific, 0-3.
- Hannah Forbes leads the Seahawks with 52 kills and seven service aces.
- Olivia Heidel paces the squad as the setter with 142 assists.
- Coley Shiflet and Marni Ursem lead the team defensively with 77 digs and 19.0 total blocks, respectively.
- UNCW was picked to finish ninth in the 2025 CAA Volleyball Preseason Poll.
- Head Coach Lo Hoyer is in her first season with the Seahawks.

The Spartans return to Greensboro next weekend to conclude the 2025 non-conference slate in Fleming Gymnasium with the Battle of North Carolina on Sept. 19-20. UNCG will face North Carolina A&T on Friday, Sept. 19 at 6:00 p.m. and UNC Asheville on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 6:00 p.m.
