Volleyball Sweeps Chattanooga
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team won its second-straight match by way of a 3-0 score, defeating Chattanooga on Saturday evening in Fleming Gymnasium in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action.
This is the first time since 2021 that UNCG has defeated Chattanooga twice in a season. During the 2021 season, the Spartans won 3-0 and 3-1.
With tonight's win over the Mocs, the Spartans improve to 10-2 at home, marking the best record in Fleming Gym since the 2017 season as that team went 12-6 overall at home that year.
This is the seventh straight-set sweep for the Spartans this season. This is the most three-set wins for UNCG since 2021, when the team had 11 matches with 3-0 victories.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – The first set was a point-for-point duel until the very end, seeing 13 tied scores throughout. With UNCG holding an 18-15 advantage, the Mocs captured four consecutive points to take a 19-18 lead. Both teams raced to find a two-point lead as the frame would go into overtime. An attack error from Chattanooga, following an Allie Sweet kill secured the Spartans with set one, 27-25.
Set 2 – The Spartans continued their momentum into set two, getting out to an early 4-1 lead to never allow the Mocs to lead in the game. A final set-point kill from McKenna Timmerman granted UNCG with the win, 25-22.
Set 3 – UNCG took the first point of the set, but Chattanooga took over the lead with a 4-1 run, 4-2. The Spartans cut the deficit to one, 15-14, late in the set, but the Mocs maintained the advantage. Following a kill by the Mocs, 21-19, the Spartans scored six straight points to come out on top and secure the victory, 25-21.
