Volleyball Drops 3-1 Matchup with Furman
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team dropped a 3-1 matchup with the Furman Paladins on Thursday night (25-17, 15-25, 19-25, 18-25) in its first contest of the season in The Southern Conference (SoCon) in Greensboro, North Carolina, in Fleming Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – After Furman posted the first point of the match, UNCG quickly took a 6-2 lead over the Paladins, holding the advantage the rest of the game. UNCG utilized a .400 hitting percentage, leading by as much as eight on a couple occasions in the first set. With UNCG up 21-17, a kill from Allie Sweet propelled the Spartans to record four-straight points, claiming the first set, 25-17.
Set 2 – After a back-and-forth battle in the early goings, Furman was able to find its stride in the second set. With the set tied at 13-13, the Paladins posted nine consecutive points, taking a 22-13 advantage. After Robin Rosser and Connore' Siler-Nixon launched the final kills for the Spartans, Furman secured two more points to earn set two, 25-15.
Set 3 – UNCG earned the first point of game three, but Furman continued its momentum, responding with three unanswered points to lead the rest of the way. With the Paladins up 18-10, the Blue & Gold notched a 4-0 run to pull back within four, 18-14. However, Furman was able to hold onto the advantage, taking the third set, 25-19.
Set 4 – The final set was a point-for-point duel between the Spartans and Paladins early on. However, with UNCG in control, 10-8 Furman strung together four-straight points to hold the lead the rest of the match. The Paladins captured the fourth stanza, 25-18, earning the 3-1 win.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Sweet registered her 12th career double-double and seventh of the season after leading the match with 14 kills and adding 11 digs.
- Rosser followed closely behind with 12 kills on the day.
- Gabby Seeds was the leading setter in the match with 35 assists.
- Chloe Nussbaum led the Spartans with 13 digs.
- Siena Smiejek paced UNCG at the net with four total blocks.
