This annual university-wide day of service gives UNCG students an opportunity be introduced to different parts of our community while working with community partners to make a difference. Participation is free, but registration is REQUIRED through GivePulse. Volunteer teams will be lead by a student Site Leader. Light breakfast, lunch, and transportation to and from your service site will be provided will be provided. Please note: Groups that are participating together must have each member register individually and list the same group name when prompted. Registration will close when capacity is reached. Spend your Saturday with us at UNCG's hidden gem- Piney Lake! Kick off the year at Piney Palooza! Students will get food truck vouchers and free giveaways! The lake will be open for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and more! The traditional slip and slide will be across the lawn and there will be no shortage of good vibes! Spartan Recovery Program at UNCG and The Moth Partner for Student Storytelling Retreat and Public StorySlam GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Spartan Recovery Program at UNC Greensboro (UNCG) is partnering with The Moth, an acclaimed nonprofit dedicated to the art of storytelling, to host a two-day retreat and public performance that celebrates the authentic voices of students. On Saturday, Aug. 23, and Sunday, Aug. 24, students from Spartan Recovery will work closely with three professional storytelling coaches from The Moth to craft and refine their personal narratives. The retreat will culminate in a StorySlam on Sunday, Aug. 24, at 6 p.m. in Elliott University Center’s Auditorium on the UNCG campus. At this special event, selected students will share their stories with the public. A reception will follow the performance. Community members and media are warmly invited to attend. While some stories may reflect experiences of recovery, the focus of the retreat is on authenticity and self-expression—allowing each student to choose the content and direction of their own story. In true Moth fashion, all stories will be told live, without notes, and within a set time limit. “This partnership with The Moth provides our students with an incredible opportunity to develop confidence, build connection, and share their lived experiences in a powerful and meaningful way,” said Ches Kennedy, Coordinator of the Spartan Recovery Program. This unique event has been made possible through the generous support of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and the Greensboro ABC Board.
