Spartan Recovery Program at UNCG and The Moth Partner for Student Storytelling Retreat and Public StorySlam GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Spartan Recovery Program at UNC Greensboro (UNCG) is partnering with The Moth, an acclaimed nonprofit dedicated to the art of storytelling, to host a two-day retreat and public performance that celebrates the authentic voices of students. On Saturday, Aug. 23, and Sunday, Aug. 24, students from Spartan Recovery will work closely with three professional storytelling coaches from The Moth to craft and refine their personal narratives. The retreat will culminate in a StorySlam on Sunday, Aug. 24, at 6 p.m. in Elliott University Center’s Auditorium on the UNCG campus. At this special event, selected students will share their stories with the public. A reception will follow the performance. Community members and media are warmly invited to attend. While some stories may reflect experiences of recovery, the focus of the retreat is on authenticity and self-expression—allowing each student to choose the content and direction of their own story. In true Moth fashion, all stories will be told live, without notes, and within a set time limit. “This partnership with The Moth provides our students with an incredible opportunity to develop confidence, build connection, and share their lived experiences in a powerful and meaningful way,” said Ches Kennedy, Coordinator of the Spartan Recovery Program. This unique event has been made possible through the generous support of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and the Greensboro ABC Board.
