Presenter: Dr. Gail Shuck, Boise State University
Differences between and within languages are central to how we navigate life as humans. The way we use language tells others, in both positive and negative ways, whether we are part of the same group or not–that is, whether we belong. Dr. Shuck will share some of her research on how common beliefs about language differences are tied to race and power, and why challenging those beliefs is an essential first step toward an equitable world.

Join Spartan Well-Being for this workshop. When considering health, we often think only in terms of physical and mental health; however true wellness is much broader. A holistic approach to wellness supports the whole person and encompasses eight dimensions. Each dimension contributes to optimal health and well-being, including physical, emotional, social, intellectual, career, cultural, environmental, and financial wellness. This presentation will explore the eight dimensions of wellness, provide an opportunity for you to examine your relationship with each dimension, and discover new ways to support your health and wellness. After participating in this workshop, students will be able to:
Consider and explore their personal health and well-being.
Understand the connection among the 8 dimensions of wellness.
Identify resources and ways to enhance their relationship with each dimension.
