GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team won twice, 5-3 and 3-0, during an Opening Day doubleheader against Creighton on Friday at UNCG Baseball Stadium.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team won twice, 5-3 and 3-0, during an Opening Day doubleheader against Creighton on Friday at UNCG Baseball Stadium.

Sam Murchison and Jay Miller shined on the bump for UNCG, starting in games one and two, respectively. Murchison hurled six complete innings with nine strikeouts before Miller took the mound for game two and went seven complete frames with just two hits and three walks allowed while shutting out the Bluejays and striking out nine. Both pitchers improved to 1-0 on day one of the season for UNCG.

GAME ONE: UNCG 5, CU 3
The Spartans opened the scoring in the bottom half of the first inning with Parker Wight doubling down the right-field line to score Zach Walsh. Jacob Dilley then roped a single down the third-base line to score another pair of runs, making it 3-0 Spartans in the opening frame.

After the Bluejays answered with three runs of their own to tie it in the top half of the second, Walsh launched a two-run home run over the wall in left to make it 5-3 Spartans.

The fourth frame saw runners on the corners for UNCG with one out to chase Creighton's starting arm, Ian Koosman, from the game. However, Matthew Aukerman got back-to-back outs to get the Bluejays out of the jam.

Despite scoring no more runs, the Spartans won game one thanks to a solid outing from Murchison followed up by a three-inning save from Noah Chapman, who struck out seven to secure the victory.

GAME TWO: UNCG 3, CU 0
UNCG scored all three of its runs during the fifth inning. Branton Jernigan was hit by a pitch to drive in the game's first run for the Spartans. Case Kermode then tallied his first hit as a Spartan, singling to the left side of the infield to score Luke Holland from third. Kermode later scored on a wild pitch to give the Spartans a 3-0 lead in Greensboro.

UNCG hung on the rest of the way thanks to Miller's impressive outing prior to a two-inning save from Danny Thompson Jr., who surrendered just one hit and struck out three.
