UConn Earns 5-2 Victory Over Baseball on Saturday
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team dropped game two of a three-game weekend series, 5-2, to the UConn Huskies in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at UNCG Baseball Stadium.
The Huskies scored the game's first run when Tyler Minick launched a solo home run over to right-center to start the fourth inning. In the next at bat, Grant MacArthur doubled to left-center before scoring on a single up the middle by Anthony Belisario. Caleb Shpur tacked on two more runs for the Huskies when he hit a two-run triple into the right-field corner. After four frames in the Gate City, UConn led UNCG by a 4-0 margin.
UNCG got on the board in the fifth frame and cut it to 4-1 Huskies when Brantley Truitt scored on an RBI groundout by Luke Holland.
The Spartans cut the deficit to two, 4-2, with a solo home run out to left by Holland in the bottom of the eighth inning. However, the Huskies answered with a solo shot of their own in the ninth, hit by Rob Rispoli out to right to push UConn's lead back to three, 5-2.
That capped the scoring for Saturday's contest in Greensboro. Brady Afthim entered the game out of the pen for the Huskies in the eighth and got them out of a jam before earning his fourth save of the season by closing out the ninth.
