No. 19 Coastal Carolina Overcomes Baseball in Tuesday Test
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team was handed an 8-2 loss by the No. 19 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Tuesday night in a non-conference contest at UNCG Baseball Stadium.
The Chanticleers scored the first run in the top of the opening inning. After Ty Dooley was hit by the game's first pitch, he eventually crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly hit deep into foul territory out in right by Sebastian Alexander.
Coastal Carolina pushed its lead to 3-0 with two more runs in the second inning. Brice Estep doubled to left to score Blagen Pado from third base. Estep then made his way across the plate from third later in the inning on a balk, which made it 3-0 Chanticleers.
Pado pushed another run across in the third when he flew out deep enough to center for Alexander to score from third on a sacrifice fly. Wells Sykes then grounded a single up the middle that hit second base and deflected into right-center, allowing Colby Thorndyke to score from second and make it 5-0.
UNCG got on the board in the bottom half of the third when Branton Jernigan doubled off the wall in left-center to score Boone Herman from first. Jernigan then scored from third later in the inning when Parker Wight blooped a single into left-center with the bases loaded. After three innings in the Gate City, the Chants still led the Spartans 5-2.
Three more runs crossed the plate for Coastal Carolina in the fifth frame. After Dom Tozzi drew a bases-loaded walk for one run, Alexander singled into center for two more runs to cap the scoring for the game at 8-2.
