Atwell Drops Career-High 27 Points in Men’s Basketball’s Loss to UNF
JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team fell to North Florida (UNF) on Saturday evening at UNF Arena, 89-77.
Donovan Atwell paced the game with a career-high 27 points, where 17 of them came in the second half. Malik Henry had 12 points and Kenyon Giles recorded 10 points to round out the Spartans who registered double figures.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNF scored the first basket of the game and UNCG's Muon Reath responded with a three-pointer to give the Spartans a 3-2 advantage. The game was tied for the first time with 17:11 on the clock before the Ospreys scored five-straight points for a 12-9 lead. The Spartans' Akrum Ahemed drained the team's second three-pointer to tie the game at 12 with 14:59 left which started a seven-point run for a 16-12 advantage. UNF utilized a 28-7 run over 9:09 to give the Ospreys their largest lead of the first half, 40-23. The Spartans went to the locker room following a 9-3 run which closed the gap to 14, 36-32.
Atwell propelled the Spartans out of the break with 14-straight points over 5:51 cutting the deficit to 11, 57-46. Demetrius Davis' three-pointer with 12:08 on the clock closed the gap to 10, 61-51, for the Osprey's smallest advantage of the half. With 3:33 on the clock, UNF saw a 22-point lead, 87-65. UNCG went on a 12-2 run in the remaining minutes, but the Ospreys claimed victory with the 12-point differential, 89-77.
