GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team returns to the Gate City and will host The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe The Citadel on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at First Horizon Coliseum.
 
The Spartans are 10-7 overall and 3-1 in SoCon play. The Citadel is 5-10 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
 
This will be the 49th meeting between the Spartans and the Bulldogs, where UNCG has the 38-10 advantage in the series. The Spartans have won the last five meetings and claimed victory in 21 of the last 22 meetings. The Bulldogs last won on Jan. 13, 2022, 74-69.  
 

 
 
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS

• The Spartans lost to conference-leading Samford, 76-69, in a narrow road match on Saturday at Pete Hanna Center.
• Donovan Atwell paced the Spartans with 19 points and Kenyon Giles was second with 12 points.
• Malik Henry led the team with five rebounds.
• Joryam Saizonou registered a team-high five assists.
• UNCG had the slight edge in three-point percentage (38.9-37.5), while Samford clipped the Spartans in field goal percentage (48.1-46.8) and free throw percentage (73.9-72.0).
• The score was tied once while the lead was changed five times.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS

• Three Spartans are averaging double figures, including Giles (16.9), Atwell (14.2) and Ronald Polite III (12.9).
• Jalen Breath (5.9), Miles Jones (4.6) and Henry (4.1) are pacing the team in rebounds per game.
• The Spartans are in the top 50 nationally in six categories, including three point percentage defense (18^th/28.4), three point percentage (22^nd/38.5), scoring defense (36^th/65.0), turnovers per game (26^th/10.1), three pointers per game (40^th/9.8) and field goal percentage defense (43^rd/40.2).
• The Spartans are leading the SoCon in field goal percentage defense, scoring defense, three point percentage and turnovers per game.
• Giles is nationally ranked in the top 50 in three point percentage (20^th/44.6) and total three point field goals made (33^rd/50).
• Nationally, Atwell is ranked in the top 50 in total three point field goals made (10^th/56), three pointers per game (17^th/3.29), three point attempts (132) and three point percentage (45^th/42.4).  
• Atwell is leading the conference in three point attempts and total three point field goals made, while Giles is at the top of the league in three point percentage.  
• The Spartans' 6-0 start at home continues to match last year's start, where UNCG went 9-0 to begin the season.
• UNCG has the advantage against its foes in points per game, 74.5-65.0, three-pointers per game, 9.8-6.2, rebounds per game, 36.6-34.1, assists per game, 14.1-11.5, and steals per game, 6.4-5.4.
• Giles joined the Spartans after two years at Radford, where he was first on the team with 1.4 steals per game and second on the team with 14.3 points per game.
• Polite III and Henry both came to UNCG with four years previously at George Mason. Polite III has averaged 7.38 points per game and 2.5 assists per game. Henry contributed a 62.5-percentage in field goals during his time with the Patriots.
• Demetrius Davis joined the Spartans after playing the last two seasons at Chattanooga and one year each at Lawson State Community College and Augusta.
• UNCG concluded last season 21-11 overall and 12-6 in The Southern Conference (SoCon) and it was the seventh year out of eight with 20 or more wins for the Spartans.
• The Spartans were voted to finish sixth in the 2024-25 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll and Atwell was voted to the 2024-25 Preseason All-SoCon team.
• The Spartans returned nine from last year's roster and added seven newcomers.

• The Citadel was voted to finish ninth in the 2024-25 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
• The Bulldogs have lost the last seven games.
• Brody Fox is pacing the team with 16.0 points per game.
• Fox is leading the SoCon and is 10^th nationally with 125 free throw attempts per game.
• Sola Adebisi is averaging 6.8 rebounds per game to lead the Bulldogs.
• Paxton Davidson leads the charge with 2.8 assists per game.
• Opponents are outscoring The Citadel, 73.3-69.9.
• The Bulldogs have the edge over their opponents in rebounds per game, 37.0-35.1.
• Nationally, The Citadel is 62^nd with 26.3 three point attempts per game.
• The Bulldogs' 19.9 free throw attempts per game is leading the conference.
