Men’s Tennis Earns 5-2 Victory Over The Citadel in SoCon Home Opener

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over The Citadel in Southern Conference (SoCon) action on Friday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over The Citadel in Southern Conference (SoCon) action on Friday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts.

UNCG earned the doubles point to get on the board first, 1-0. It started with John Gabelic and Eric Lindemann capturing a doubles victory, 6-1, over Nick Stroumpis and Anthony Osipov. Luke Thomson and Tymofiy Khrystuk then teamed up to defeat Noah Van Dyke and Tucker Hendrix, 6-3, on court one. Andrew Black and Devon Moskowitz's doubles match went the way of Ted Bagwell and Diego Ladino, 6-3, but UNCG had already secured the doubles point.

In singles action, Moskowitz improved the Spartans' lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Stroumpis. Gabelic then defeated Bagwell, 6-1, 6-3, to make it 3-0 UNCG. Luke Thomson made it 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Minnich. Although the Spartans had already locked up the victory with four points, The Citadel picked up its first points when Osipov beat Alan Trbonja, 7-5, 6-2, and Van Dyke beat Khrystyuk, 7-5, 6-7 (4), 1-0 (6), to cut it to 4-2. Andrew Black secured a 5-2 victory for UNCG by winning one final singles match against Reece Beckendorf, 7-6 (2), 7-5.
