Men’s Tennis Fights Back for 4-3 Win Over Coastal Carolina
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team came from behind to win 4-3 over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (CCU) on Tuesday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
The Spartans found themselves down 2-0 overall after the Chanticleers earned the doubles point as well as the first singles point, but UNCG fought back to tie it 2-2. Later trailing 3-2 in the dual, they clawed their way back again to prevail, 4-3, with junior Devon Moskowitz winning the final singles match to give UNCG its fourth win of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chanticleers picked up the first point with back-to-back wins in doubles. Coastal Carolina did it with Emiliano Gonzalez Balmaceda and Jack Dixon earning a 6-4 victory over UNCG's Andrew Black and Devon Moskowitz on court one. Rivers Cahill and Juan Cruz Collardin then beat William Elmers and John Gabelic, 6-4, on court three to secure the doubles point. Leading 5-4, Tymofiy Khrystyuk and Luke Thomson's game against Iannis Fernandez and Christopher Norlin was left unfinished on court one after the doubles point went CCU's way.
CCU extended its lead to 2-0 when Christopher Norlin earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Thomson. UNCG snagged its first point with Elmers prevailing in singles, 7-5, 6-1, over Iannis Fernandez. The Spartans then tied it up, 2-2, with another singles win from Khrystyuk, 6-1, 7-6 (6), over Juan Cruz Collardin. The Chanticleers went up 3-2 with Curzio Manucci winning, 6-4, 7-6 (2), over Andrew Black. However, UNCG stormed back with wins from Gabelic, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, and Moskowitz, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, to tie it and then win it, respectively, by a final score of 4-3.
