Men’s Tennis to Host Longwood

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team will host the Longwood Lancers on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS

  • UNCG heads into Saturday's contest with a 1-3 overall mark on the 2025 slate.
  • The team most recently earned a 7-0 dominating victory on Friday, Feb. 7 at the UNCG Tennis Courts before falling to Queens, 5-2, in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Sunday.
  • Juniors Andrew Black and Devon Moskowitz earned the lone points for UNCG with wins during singles play against the Royals.
  • Moskowitz is leading the Spartans in singles play this season with a 3-1 overall record.
  • Black, William Elmers and John Gabelic have each collected two singles wins apiece.
  • Gabelic and Elmers are currently the best doubles duo on the squad with a 3-1 mark.
  • Black and Moskowitz were ranked No. 79 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Doubles Rankings on Dec. 5, 2024.
  • Black and Moskowitz teamed up to post a 7-0 record and six points for their first national ranking in either singles or doubles. The duo earned its seven wins during the fall season, with a pair during the UNCG Fall Invitational, three at the Davidson Fall Invitational and two more during the Spartan Fall Invitational.
  • The Spartans played in five different tournaments this past fall including the UNCG Fall Invitational, Davidson Fall Invitational, ITA Regional Championships, Spartan Fall Invitational and Wake Forest Fall Invitational.
  • Last season's men's tennis squad finished 6-16 overall with an 0-7 mark in The Southern Conference (SoCon).
  • The season ended with a 4-0 loss to top-seeded ETSU in the SoCon Tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
  • Tymofiy Khrystyuk paced the team in singles with a 9-10 record. Gabelic was right behind him with a 9-12 record for the season.
  • Khrystyuk and Luke Thomson led the way for the Spartans in doubles play with a 5-6 record and 2-2 mark in the SoCon.
  • The Spartans have five returning juniors on their roster this season as well as three freshmen who are in their first year at UNCG.
  • Head Coach Jeff Trivette is in his 25th season with UNCG Tennis.

SCOUTING THE LANCERS

  • Longwood heads to Greensboro with a 1-3 overall record this season.
  • The Lancers are coming off a 4-3 win over Campbell on Saturday in Buies Creek, North Carolina.
  • Up, 3-2, in the dual, Peter Belosevic sealed the victory for Longwood with a three-set win, 7-6, 3-6, 6-1.
  • The Lancers dropped their first three matches of the season at Virginia Tech, 6-1, at James Madison, 6-1 and at Barton, 4-0.
  • Timeo Puech is leading the team with a 12-5 overall record in singles action.
  • Mauricio Gonzalez Paiva and Puech are undefeated in doubles play this season with a 5-0 record.
  • Puech has the most overall doubles wins with nine.
  • UNCG secured the last meeting against Longwood, 5-2, in Greensboro on Jan. 20, 2023.
  • Longwood will open its 2025 home slate by hosting Howard on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 11:00 a.m.
