Men’s Tennis Hosts Coastal Carolina Tuesday, Travels to NC State Wednesday and Furman Friday
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team is set for a pair of midweek matches, first hosting Coastal Carolina on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. before traveling to NC State on Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. dual.
The Spartans will then open The Southern Conference (SoCon) slate on the road at Furman on Friday at 3:00 p.m.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
- UNCG is now 3-4 overall after splitting a doubleheader against Belmont Abbey, 3-4 and 7-0, in Greensboro on Saturday.
- The Spartans' three wins have all come at home. First by defeating USC Sumter, 7-0, at the UNCG Tennis Courts on Feb. 7 before edging out Longwood at Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center, 4-3, on Feb. 15 and thumping Belmont Abbey, 7-0, on Saturday at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
- UNCG is 3-1 at home and 0-3 on the road this season.
- William Elmers and John Gabelic are leading the Spartans in doubles with a team-best 6-1 record.
- Andrew Black and Devon Moskowitz are 4-3 so far while competing in doubles.
- Tymofiy Khrystyuk and Luke Thomson own a 2-4 mark in doubles this season.
- Moskowitz leads the Spartans with a 6-1 record in singles.
- Gabelic owns the second-best singles record so far at 5-2.
- Black and Elmers are tied for third on the team with 4-3 marks competing in singles.
- Black and Moskowitz were ranked No. 79 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Doubles Rankings on Dec. 5, 2024.
- Black and Moskowitz teamed up to post a 7-0 record and six points for their first national ranking in either singles or doubles. The duo earned its seven wins during the fall season, with a pair during the UNCG Fall Invitational, three at the Davidson Fall Invitational and two more during the Spartan Fall Invitational.
- The Spartans played in five different tournaments this past fall including the UNCG Fall Invitational, Davidson Fall Invitational, ITA Regional Championships, Spartan Fall Invitational and Wake Forest Fall Invitational.
- Last season's men's tennis squad finished 6-16 overall with an 0-7 mark in The Southern Conference (SoCon).
- The season ended with a 4-0 loss to top-seeded ETSU in the SoCon Tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
- Khrystyuk paced the team in singles with a 9-10 record. Gabelic was right behind him with a 9-12 record for the season.
- Khrystyuk and Luke Thomson led the way for the Spartans in doubles play with a 5-6 record and 2-2 mark in the SoCon.
- The Spartans have five returning juniors on their roster this season as well as three freshmen (Elmers, Eric Lindemann and Alan Trbonja) who are in their first year at UNCG.
- Head Coach Jeff Trivette is in his 25th season with UNCG Tennis.
SCOUTING THE CHANTICLEERS
- Coastal Carolina is 3-2 so far this season and coming off a 5-2 victory over Campbell, which extended a three-match winning streak.
- So far this spring, the Chants opened the season with losses to then-No. 7 Duke, 7-0, and UNC Wilmington, 4-3, before rattling off three straight wins over College of Charleston, 4-3, Davidson, 7-0, and Campbell, 5-2.
- The Chants are 2-1 at home and 1-1 on the road.
- Iannis Fernandes and Christopher Norlin lead the Chanticleers with a perfect 3-0 record so far in doubles.
- Emiliano Gonzalez Balmaceda and Norlin lead the team with 4-1 records.
- The Chanticleers finished the 2023-24 campaign 9-14 overall and 2-6 in the Sun Belt.
- Coastal Carolina's men' tennis team is under the direction of Head Coach Chris Powers, who is in his 24th season with the Chants and 21st at the helm.
UNCG vs. COASTAL CAROLINA HISTORY
The Chanticleers lead the all-time series between UNCG and Coastal Carolina, 12-7. The Chants have won each of the last five matches in the series, including a 7-0 match in Conway, South Carolina, last season.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
- No. 19 NC State is off to a 7-4 start overall this spring.
- The Wolfpack are coming off a win over No. 8 Kentucky, 4-1, and a pair of losses to No. 2 Wake Forest, 4-2, and No. 5 Virginia, 4-1, at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Team Indoors.
- The Wolfpack are led in doubles by Braden Shick and Fons Van Sambeek, who have combined for a 10-3 record.
- No. 19 NC State is led in singles play by Martin Borisiouk, who owns a 12-3 record this season in singles.
- The Wolfpack posted an 18-7 overall record a season ago before falling in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to South Carolina, 4-3, in Raleigh.
- The NC State men' tennis team has been under the direction of Head Coach Kyle Spencer since June of 2017.
UNCG vs. NC STATE HISTORY
The Wolfpack own a 10-0 record all-time over the Spartans. UNCG and NC State last faced off twice on Jan. 14, 2024, where the Wolfpack prevailed 4-0 and 7-0 in Raleigh.
SCOUTING THE PALADINS
- Furman is 3-5 overall and 1-0 in the SoCon after defeating The Citadel, 7-0, in Charleston, South Carolina, back on Feb. 8.
- The Paladins are coming off a loss to No. 31 Clemson, 4-1, on the road.
- Walker Allen (4-1) and Elijah Poritzky (4-3) are leading Furman in terms of singles victories.
- Poritzky collected the lone point for the Paladins at No. 31-rated Clemson with a win in singles.
- Nicolas Dispas and Nico Snyder lead the team with a 4-3 doubles record.
- The Paladins finished the 2023-24 campaign with a 13-12 overall record as well as a 5-2 mark in SoCon action. Their season ended with a second-round loss in the SoCon Tournament to Samford, 4-2.
- Furman men's tennis is led by J.J. Whitlinger, who is in his 10th season with the Paladins and sixth as the head coach.
UNCG vs. FURMAN HISTORY
The Spartans are 5-30 in the all-time series against the Paladins, which included a 6-1 setback for UNCG in Greensboro last season on March 1.
