Men’s Tennis Edges Longwood, 4-3
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team earned a 4-3 victory over the Longwood Lancers on Saturday afternoon at Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
The Spartans earned the first point when William Elmers and John Gabelic as well as Andrew Black and Devon Moskowitz earned 6-2 and 6-1 victories, respectively. Leading 4-3 in the third doubles match, Tymofiy Khrystyuk and Luke Thomson had the upperhand on Longwood's Maur Gonzalez Paiva and Timeo Puech before UNCG earned the point with the first two wins and it was left unfinished. Freshmen Eric Lindemann and Alan Trbonja also competed in an exhibition doubles match during the day.
After Black earned the first point in singles for the Spartans, 6-3, 6-4, Puech answered with a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win over Khrystyuk to cut it to 2-1 Spartans. The Lancer then tied it at 2-2 with Belosevic taking down Thomson, 7-5, 7-5. Gabelic put UNCG back on top, 3-2, with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 victory over Gonzalez Paiva. Longwood's Petter Lindquist then defeated Elmers, 6-4, 6-1, to tie it at 3-3 and force a pivotal sixth single match. Moskowitz clinched the 4-3 win for the Spartans, taking down Marko Mrdak, 6-3, 7-5.
