Hamilton Breaks School Record, Spartans Shine at Charlotte Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's track team sent five individuals on Friday to the Charlotte Invitational at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's track team sent five individuals on Friday to the Charlotte Invitational at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center.
 
Andrew Hamilton and Samuel Barnard both competed in the 800-meter invite. Hamilton clocked in a personal best time of 1:51.41 which broke the school record of 1:51.63 previously held by Jeff Williams from April 8, 2006, at the Duke Invitational. Hamilton's time placed him sixth out of 14 competitors.
 
Barnard finished the race in 1:51.50 for a personal best time, taking home seventh overall. His time is now second in the UNCG record book. On The Southern Conference (SoCon) outdoor performance list, Hamilton's time is currently third, while Barnard's is fourth.
 
Evan Pena ran a personal best time of 14:38.64 in the 5000-meter invite. Pena placed 13th out of 34 competitors and dropped seven seconds off his previous time. His time is now eighth in the UNCG record book. Pena moves up to ninth on the SoCon outdoor performance list. 
 
Lane Prochaska and Mason Rudel finished in fifth and seventh place, respectively, in the 5000-meter open event.

Up next
UNCG will take some time off before competing in the Aggie Classic from Friday, May 2 to Saturday, May 3, hosted by NC A&T at the Marcus T. Johnson Track.

The Spartans will also send select individuals to the Duke Twilight on Sunday, May 4 in Durham, North Carolina, back at the Morris Williams Stadium.
