Barnard & Pena Earn First Place, Track Performs Well at VertKlasse Meeting
HIGH POINT, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's & women's track teams competed at the VertKlasse Meeting, hosted by High Point, on Friday and Saturday at Vert Stadium.
Samuel Barnard and Evan Pena both earned first-place finishes this weekend. Seven from the men's team and nine from the women's team ran personal best times.
Barnard clocked in a time of 1:52.57, placing first out of eight competitors in the 800-meter run. His time is currently second on The Southern Conference (SoCon) Outdoor Performance List. Pena finished the 1500-meter run with a personal best time of 3:57.16. His time in the second team topped 93 competitors to take the top spot. His time is currently sixth on the SoCon Outdoor Performance List.
Andrew Hamilton and Colin Keck followed Pena in the 1500-meter run. Hamilton crossed the finish line with a personal best time of 3:57.98, which placed him third overall, while Keck clocked in a time of 3:58.55, taking home fourth overall.
Lane Prochaska led the way for the Spartans in the 800-meter participate run with a personal best time of 1:58.21. Prochaska placed 24th out of 91 competitors.
Spencer Connick, who ran the 3000-meter steeplechase for the first time in his collegiate career, finished in 19th place out of 32 competitors with a time of 10:32.82.
Serena Henderson led the way for the Spartans in the 800-meter participate run. She clocked in a personal best time of 2:23.84 which put her first in her heat and 21st out of 69 competitors. Blair Taylor also finished with a personal best time in the event, clocking in a time of 2:31.77, placing 37th overall.
In the 1500-meter participate event for the women, Emma Berrier finished in 25th place out of 83 competitors with a 13-second personal best time of 4:54.43. Lillian Douglass ran a 15-second personal best time of 5:00.92, placing 40th overall.
Milania Millard, Olivia Dawson and Kiarrah Williams all ran personal best times in the 100-meter sprint.

UNCG will continue its outdoor schedule by sending Spartans to the Duke Invitational from April 10-12 in Durham, North Carolina, at Morris Williams Stadium. The Spartans will also compete at the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic from April 11-12 in Lynchburg, Virginia, at the Shellenberger Field & Dr. Jack M. Toms Track.
