Women’s Golf to Tee Off at Puerto Rico Shootout
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team is in Humacao, Puerto Rico, to compete in the Puerto Rico Shootout, hosted by Ball State from Tuesday to Thursday at Palmas del Mar Golf Club.
This will be the third of five tournaments for the Spartans this spring. UNCG has finished fifth or better in five of its seven total events so far since the start of the fall. It included capping the autumn slate with a runner-up finish while hosting the UNCG Collegiate, which saw senior Ava Romfo win the individual title.

THE FORMAT
The Puerto Rico Shootout will be a three-day and 54-hole competition with 13 teams. Play will begin with the first round on Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. ET. The second round on Wednesday will also begin at 7:30 a.m. before the final round starts on Thursday at 7:00 a.m. Each day will be in a shotgun start format.

LAST TIME OUT FOR UNCG
- UNCG was last in action at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational, hosted by Mercer from Feb. 21-23 at Great Waters Course in Greensboro, Georgia.
- The Spartans finished fifth at 42-over-par (906), four strokes behind Boston College (902) and three in front of Tulane (909).
- UNCG jumped from a tie for 10th after the first day to alone in eighth after round two before climbing up to a fifth-place finish on Feb. 23.
- The Spartans shot the second-best team round on the final day at four-over-par (292).
- UNCG carded rounds of 315-299-292 in the tournament.
- The Spartans were the best team on par-five holes at the tournament. On par fives, UNCG finished one-under-par as a team with a 4.98 stroke average.
- UNCG ended up in third for total pars with 169. They had 60 in the second round before concluding the event with 59 more on Sunday.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
- The Puerto Rico Shootout will mark UNCG's third event of the spring.
- The Spartans finished fourth or better in four of their first five tournaments back in the fall.
- UNCG broke the single-round tournament record for the Golfweek Fall Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, on Sept. 9 in round two by shooting a 13-under-par (271). The Spartans later finished third in the event.
- The Spartans finished fourth in the Clemson Invitational on Aug. 26 at Walker Course in Clemson, South Carolina, to begin the fall.
- UNCG also tied for third in the Pirate Collegiate Classic from Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Greenville, North Carolina.
- Romfo leads the team and is fourth in The Southern Conference (SoCon) with a 73.06 stroke average.
- McIlvaine is second on the squad and sixth in the SoCon, averaging 73.58 strokes per round.
- Lauture is 12th in the SoCon with a 74.14 stroke average.
- Burnette stands at fourth for UNCG, averaging 74.81 strokes per round, while Holcomb and Baeumken average 75.00 and 75.05 per round, respectively.
- The Spartans have three newcomers this season, including freshmen Leetham and Lauture as well as a sophomore transfer from Marshall in McIlvaine.
