Dutton Records Strong Finish at NCAA Regionals
AMHERST, Va. – Colin Dutton of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team concluded his appearance in the NCAA Regionals on Wednesday with a strong finish to the third and final round of the NCAA Amherst Regional in Amherst, Virginia, at Poplar Grove Golf Course.
Previously slated for one round each day, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the NCAA Amherst Regional began on Sunday due to potential weather and was concluded on Wednesday.
Dutton finished in a tie for 49th place behind rounds of 73-77-69 for an overall score of nine-over-par (219). Dutton concluded the third round on Wednesday with a one-under-par (69). He posted a two-over-par (37) on the front nine before picking up the momentum on the back nine for a three-under-par (32). He carded his only eagle of the Regional in the final round on the 11th hole. Dutton posted a total of four birdies and 35 even pars across the three rounds.
On the 13-team leaderboard, Oklahoma finished on top at the Amherst Regional with a 10-under-par (830). Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Wake Forest and Pepperdine followed closely behind for all five teams to advance to the NCAA Championships.
Sakke Siltala of Texas State finished in second place as the lowest scoring individual at the Amherst Regional, with a five-under-par (205) after notching round scores of 71-67-67.
Dutton claimed first place in The 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) Championships on April 22 to earn an automatic bid into the 2025 NCAA Regionals. He carded a 10-under-par (206) behind rounds of 69-66-71 over the three days. Dutton's appearance in the 2025 NCAA Regionals marks the ninth time in UNCG program history that the Spartans have made an NCAA Regionals appearance as either a team or individual.
UNCG finished in second place in the 2025 SoCon Championships with an overall score of 18-under-par (846) behind rounds of 277-285-284. The Spartans carded four first-place finishes this season. UNCG finished first at the Sea Palms Invitational on March 15, 2025, the Dorado Beach Collegiate on Feb. 25, 2025, the Elon Invitational on Oct. 15, 2024, and the Bryan National Collegiate on Sept. 10, 2024. This is the first time in UNCG men's golf program history the team has collected four regular season tournament wins.
