Women’s Basketball Continues Power-Four Conference Schedule at Georgia

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team will continue its Power-Four Conference slate by facing Southeastern Conference (SEC) opponent Georgia on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Athens, Georgia, at Stegeman Coliseum.

SERIES HISTORY
Monday's meeting marks the first time in program history the Spartans and Bulldogs have met.
 
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS

  • UNCG recently dropped an 86-50 contest at No. 14 North Carolina on Wednesday in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
  • Jaila Lee and Nya Smith led the Spartans in scoring with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
  • Lee paced the team with two three-pointers.
  • Yacine N'Diaye recorded new career-bests of seven points, six boards and three free throws.
  • A total of eight different Spartans scored in the game.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS

  • UNCG currently sits 7-3 overall on the 2024-25 season.
  • The Spartans are undefeated at home with a 5-0 mark in Fleming Gym.
  • The Blue & Gold stand atop The Southern Conference (SoCon) in scoring defense (53.6), three-point percentage (33.0) and the least number of turnovers per game (15.1).
  • The Spartans are 21st nationally in scoring defense.
  • Jayde Gamble is second in the league in field goal percentage (47.2) and steals per game (2.40).
  • UNCG is besting its opponents across several categories: points (666-536), field goals (246-198), three-pointers (65-49), free throws (109-91), rebounds (340-306), assists (117-110), points off turnovers (18.5-11.8) and steals (97-72).
  • Gamble paces the team with 135 points, 51 field goals, 35 assists and 24 steals.
  • Smith stands out from behind the arc with 14 three-pointers.
  • Lee paces the squad at the charity stripe with 27 free throws for a 71.1 free throw percentage.
  • Khalis Cain leads the Spartans defensively with 64 boards and six blocks.
  • The Spartans went 21-12 overall and 8-6 in league play during the 2023-24 season.
  • UNCG appeared in the SoCon Championship for the seventh time in program history last season, falling to Chattanooga, 69-60.
  • The 2024-25 roster features 10 returners and five newcomers with three transfers and two freshmen.

SCOUTING GEORGIA

  • The Bulldogs come into Monday's contest with a 5-5 mark on the 2024-25 season.
  • Georgia was picked to finish 14th in the SEC 2024-25 Predicted Order of Finish.
  • The Bulldogs concluded the 2023-24 season with a 12-18 overall record and 3-13 mark in the SEC.
  • Georgia dropped its last two matches, both in Stegeman Coliseum. The Bulldogs took a 76-74 loss to Hampton on Sunday, Dec. 1 and most recently fell 70-61 to Virginia Tech on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
  • Monday's contest will end an 11-day break for the Bulldogs.
  • Georgia is besting its opponents in total points (679-613), field goals (252-225), free throws (117-96), rebounding (420-331), assists (128-125) and steals (87-70).
  • The Bulldogs' opponents hold the advantage in three-pointers (67-58) and blocks (23-20).
  • As a team, Georgia stands out in the top-50 nationally in a few statistical categories: rebound margin (8.9/35th), rebounds per game (42.00/43rd) and defensive rebounds per game (28.4/46th). 
  • Trinity Turner is third in the SEC with a 33.86 minutes per game average and 156 field goal attempts.
  • Turner's 156 field goal attempts puts her at 34th nationally.
  • Amiya Evans stands at 30th in the country with four double-doubles this season.
  • Evans paces the squad defensively with 86 rebounds and nine blocks.
  • Turner leads the Bulldogs with 131 points and 52 field goals.
  • De'Mauri Flournoy leads the team at the three-point line with 18 threes this season.
  • Asia Avinger stands out at the charity stripe with 25 free throws and leads the team with 42 dimes.
  • Avinger and Turner are pacing the team with 19 steals apiece.
  • Following its matchup with UNCG, Georgia will travel to San Diego, California, for the San Diego Tournament to take on Clemson on Thursday, Dec. 19 and Colorado State on Friday, Dec. 20.
