SoCon Announces Women's Basketball Player of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Graduate forward Khalis Cain of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
Cain registered her third double-double of the season and 18th of her career with 12 points and 10 rebounds in UNCG's 66-58 win over Western Carolina on Saturday in Cullowhee, North Carolina. She went a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line and 3-for-5 from the field, while adding one assist, one block and one steal in the game. Cain's 12 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday marked her fifth game in double-figures and sixth game with double-digit rebounds this season.
The San Jose, California, native is fifth in the conference with a 6.7 rebounds per game average and she leads the Spartans defensively with 128 boards and 16 blocks.
Tuesday's award marks the second time Cain has been named SoCon Player of the Week in her career. She last earned the feat on Jan. 2, 2023. In addition, this is the second SoCon Player of the Week recognition for UNCG women's basketball this season as Nya Smith earned the honor back on Dec. 24, 2024.
