Women’s Golf to Compete at City of Oaks Collegiate
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team is set to compete in the City of Oaks Collegiate, hosted by NC State at Lonnie Poole Golf Course from Friday to Saturday in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The Spartans are coming off their first tournament win since the 2011-12 season after winning the Puerto Rico Shootout in Humacao, Puerto Rico. UNCG was led by freshman Lulu Leetham, who was named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Women's Golfer of the Week on March 12, after she tied for second in the field of 82 golfers.
This is the fourth of five tournaments for the Spartans this spring. UNCG has finished fifth or better in six of its eight total events so far since the start of the fall. It included capping the autumn slate with a runner-up finish while hosting the UNCG Collegiate, which saw senior Ava Romfo win the individual title.

THE FORMAT
The City of Oaks Collegiate will be a two-day and three-round tournament with 17 teams participating. All teams will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Friday to play two rounds. The final round will take place on Saturday with an 8:30 a.m. double tee off holes 1 and 10.

LAST TIME OUT FOR UNCG
- UNCG took home first in the Puerto Rico Shootout, hosted by Ball State from March 4-5 at the Flamboyan Course at Palmas del Mar Golf Club in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
- It marked the Spartans first tournament win since the Palmetto Intercollegiate from Oct. 23-24, 2011, at Oak Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
- The tournament was shortened one day and one round after the third and final day was rained out.
- The Spartans finished two-over-par (578), holding a five-stroke lead over second-place James Madison (583).
- UNCG finished second in terms of average strokes on par threes (3.10), fours (4.17) and fives (4.85). Additionally, the Spartans were plus-four as a team on par threes, plus-17 on par fours and six-under-par on par five holes.
- The Spartans led the tournament with two eagles. Freshman Sophie Lauture scored the first one in the opening round on the 10th hole before Leetham added another on the third hole during the second round.
- The Spartans led the tournament in pars made (124).
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
- The City of Oaks Collegiate will mark UNCG's fourth event of the spring.
- The Spartans finished fourth or better in four of their first five tournaments back in the fall.
- UNCG broke the single-round tournament record for the Golfweek Fall Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, on Sept. 9 in round two by shooting a 13-under-par (271). The Spartans later finished third in the event.
- The Spartans finished fourth in the Clemson Invitational on Aug. 26 at Walker Course in Clemson, South Carolina, to begin the fall.
- UNCG also tied for third in the Pirate Collegiate Classic from Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Greenville, North Carolina.
- Romfo leads the team and is fifth in the SoCon with a 73.22 stroke average.
- McIlvaine is second on the squad and seventh in the SoCon, averaging 73.52 strokes per round.
- Lauture is 12th in the SoCon with a 74.38 stroke average.
- Burnette stands at fourth for UNCG, averaging 74.95 strokes per round, with Leetham close behind her at a 75.08 average.
- Holcomb and Baeumken average 75.40 and 76.50 per round, respectively.
- The Spartans have three newcomers this season, including freshmen Leetham and Lauture as well as a sophomore transfer from Marshall in McIlvaine.
