SoCon Announces Women's Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf freshman Lulu Leetham has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Women's Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday.

The Brackley, England, native tied for second in the Puerto Rico Shootout, leading the Spartans to their first tournament victory since the 2011-12 season. She finished four-under-par (140) in two rounds of action before the third day of the tournament was canceled due to inclement weather. She opened the tournament by scoring her best round as a Spartan (69) on March 4 before shooting one-under-par (71) in the second round on March 5.

Leetham tied for first competing on par fives with a five-under-par score on those holes backed by a 4.38 stroke average. She sank the Spartans' second eagle of the tournament during the second round.

"I am so happy to receive this award!" Leetham said. "I am so grateful to be a part of this team and to have such great support around us. The hard work is finally paying off and this is only just the beginning of much bigger successes going forward!"

The Puerto Rico Shootout marked UNCG's first team win in a tournament since the Palmetto Invitational from Oct. 23-24, 2011.

This is Leetham's first SoCon weekly honor and the Spartans' third of the season after Sophie Lauture won it on Sept. 11 before Romfo earned it on Oct. 23.
