Women’s Golf Alone in First After Day Two of Puerto Rico Shootout
HUMACAO, P.R. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team is alone in first after two rounds of the Puerto Rico Shootout, hosted by Ball State on the Flamboyan Course at Palmas del Mar Golf Club.
Freshman Lulu Leetham shot one-under-par (71) during the second round on Wednesday to improve to four-under-par (140) through two rounds. She is still tied for second after posting her best round as a Spartan on Tuesday (69).
TEAM
- The Spartans are two-over-par (578), holding a five-stroke lead over second-place James Madison (583).
- This marks UNCG's first time finishing a round alone in first on the team leaderboard since Sept. 18, 2023, when the Spartans were first after day one of the Elon Women's Invitational.
- After two rounds, UNCG stands at second in terms of average strokes on par threes (3.10), fours (4.17) and fives (4.85). Additionally, the Spartans are plus-four as a team on par threes, plus-17 on par fours and six-under-par on par five holes so far.
- The Spartans now lead the tournament with two eagles. Freshman Sophie Lauture scored the first one in Tuesday's first round on the 10th hole before Leetham added another on the third hole in the second round on Wednesday.
- The Spartans are now also leading in pars made (124).
- Regarding the other two Southern Conference (SoCon) teams in the field, Western Carolina is seventh at 18-over-par (594) while Wofford is in last at 13th with a score of 35-over-par (611).
INDIVIDUAL
- Leetham is leading the Spartans and is tied for second at four-under-par (140) with rounds of 69-71. She is tied for first competing on par fives with a five-under-par score on those holes backed by a 4.38 stroke average. Leetham sank the Spartans' second eagle of the tournament on Wednesday.
- Sophomore Kasey McIlvaine is second for UNCG and tied for 10th at two-over-par (146) following rounds of 71-75. She is tied for sixth with 27 pars so far.
- Junior Elle Burnette is tied for 19th at four-over-par (148) after posting rounds of 75-73.
- Senior Ava Romfo is tied for 26th on the player leaderboard at five-over-par (149) after finishing the second round even par (72). Romfo is tied for first in the event with eight birdies.
- Lauture is tied for 41st at eight-over-par (152). She is tied for second in the tournament with 28 pars.
- Competing individually, junior Julia Baeumken is 53rd at 10-over-par (154) while senior Grace Holcomb is 63rd at 12-over-par (156).
- James Madison's Hannah Rabb remains alone in first at five-under-par (139).
