Romfo Tops Women’s Golf at Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team finished 16th on Sunday at Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, hosted by North Carolina at Finley Golf Club.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team finished 16th on Sunday at Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, hosted by North Carolina at Finley Golf Club.

TEAM

  • The Spartans finished 80-over-par (920) on the weekend after posting 310-299-311 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
  • UNCG finished seven strokes ahead of The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Western Carolina.
  • The Spartans earned 139 pars and 22 birdies from Friday through Sunday.
  • UNCG was at its best when playing the short holes, finishing tied for ninth among the teams with a 3.23 stroke average on par threes.
  • Duke won the invitational with a 16-over-par (856) performance.

 
INDIVIDUAL

  • Senior Ava Romfo tied for 30th overall and led the Spartans at 10-over-par (220) with rounds of 74-72-74. She finished with seven birdies and 30 pars.
  • Sophomore Kasey McIlvaine was second on the team and tied for 54th overall after finishing at 16-over-par (226) with 76-72-78. She led the Spartans with eight birdies.
  • Freshman Sophie Lauture finished third for UNCG and 80th on the player leaderboard at 27-over-par (237) after carding an 82-74-81. She tied for the team lead with Romfo at 30 pars.
  • Junior Julia Baeumken was fourth on the team and tied for 83rd at 31-over-par (241) with rounds of 78-81-82.
  • Sophomore Elle Burnette tied for 85th after finishing Sunday 32-over-par (242) with rounds of 82-82-78.
  • Duke's Andie Smith led the event as an individual at seven-under-par (203).

UP NEXT
The Spartans will host the UNCG Collegiate from Oct. 21-22 at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina, to close out the fall portion of their schedule.
