Women’s Soccer and The Citadel Play to Scoreless Draw

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team and The Citadel Bulldogs played to a 0-0 draw on Thursday afternoon in a very defensive battle on the Parade Deck in The Southern Conference (SoCon) play.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team and The Citadel Bulldogs played to a 0-0 draw on Thursday afternoon in a very defensive battle on the Parade Deck in The Southern Conference (SoCon) play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UNCG held possession most of the first half and had a slight edge in shots, 3-2. Claire Esse had a chance inside the six-yard box, but the Bulldogs' Zoe Santos turned away the shot in the 40th minute. It was the Spartans' best chance in the opening half.  
 
In the 74th minute, Lydia Hindt lofted a pass from the left side of the field to Taylor Mentzer, who drove the ball with her head wide of the left post for one of the Spartans' four shots in the second half. On one of the Spartans' five corner kicks in the game, Avery Barr headed the ball on target, but Santos was there to keep the game scoreless in the 86th minute.

  • The Bulldogs had three saves, while the Spartans had two.
  • The Spartans had five corner kicks to the Bulldogs' one.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will host Western Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 1:00 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium for UNCG's final regular season home game.

This will be the Spartans' Pink Game and the first 100 UNCG students will receive FREE socks!

The Spartans will also be collecting items at the gate for a Hurricane Helene Relief Donation Drive. Some items include: baby wipes/diapers/formula, bug spray, kitchen utensils, non-perishable foods, toiletries/sanitation items, pet food, water, cleaning supplies, flashlights, batteries, blankets, clothes and more.
