Women’s Soccer to Contend Wofford on Senior Day Sunday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team welcomes The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Wofford College on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 2:00 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.

Prior to the game, UNCG will recognize its five seniors in Jill Ginn, Chloe Lausell, Rachel Poplin, Mel Herrera and Lydia Hindt. This will also be the Spartans' Faith and Family Game and concessions has a buy one get one free hot dog deal.

UNCG leads the all-time series, 21-2-5. The Terriers took the win last season, 2-1, in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
 
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
Junior Ava Kiss scored the scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Chattanooga last Sunday in Tennessee. Kiss scored her third goal of the season and seventh of her career. This was the Spartans' third shutout of the season. Goalkeeper Emma Malone made five saves in the win. With the triumph over the Mocs, UNCG kept Chattanooga winless at Finley Stadium.  
 
ABOUT THE SPARTANS

  • Kiss paces the team with eight points scoring three goals and two assists this season.
  • Greulich and Taylor Mentzer have both scored two goals.
  • Morgan Brubaker, Herrera, Poplin and Oka have each chipped in one goal.
  • Along with Kiss, Mairead Gayer and Ryen Ortiz each have two helpers.
  • The Spartans have the edge over their opponents in shots, 116-105, while foes have the advantage in corner kicks, 51-43.
  • UNCG had 25 shots against the Keydets and it was the first game since Sept. 7, 2023, when the Spartans had 20 or more shots. The Spartans had 20 shots against Coastal Carolina that day and won 3-0.
  • Among the SoCon, UNCG is tied for second in goals against (11), tied for third in goal differential (0), third in goals against average (1.00) and fourth in save percentage (77.1).
  • Malone was most recently named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 1 for a 1-0 clean sheet against Chattanooga. This was her second career weekly award.
  • She earned her first honor on Sept. 3. This was the Spartans' first SoCon Player of the Week since Oct. 28, 2022, when Nadia Wilson earned the award and first SoCon Defensive Player of the Week since Sept. 27, 2022, when Abby Buchholz earned the recognition.
  • Head Coach Stefani Workman is in her first year at the helm of the Spartans and eighth year overall with the Blue & Gold.
  • The Spartans were voted to finish seventh in the 2024 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • The Spartans added six freshmen and one graduate transfer to the 2024 roster.

 
SCOUTING WOFFORD

  • Wofford was voted to finish eighth in the 2024 SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll.
  • The Terriers most recently fell to Samford, 4-2, on Sept. 27 in Birmingham, Alabama.
  • Around the SoCon, Wofford is third in saves per game (4.83) and shutout percentage (.333).
  • Ines Obradovac has scored eight goals and chipped in two assists for a team leading 18 points.
  • Obradovac is nationally ranked 18th in total goals (8), 20th in game-winning goals (3), 37th in total points (18) and 47th in points per game (1.50).
  • Megan Childress is second on the team with five goals scored and four assists for 14 points.
  • Millie Murphy has two goals, while three other Terriers have each scored once.
  • Elizabeth Navola has played in eight games in net for the Terriers giving up 10 goals for 1.33 goals against.
  • Opponents are outshooting Wofford, 192-127, and in shots on goal, 82-59. The Terriers are also trailing in corner kicks, 91-39.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will split their time on the road and at home next week, first traveling to the Palmetto State to face Furman on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Stone Stadium.

They will then host Mercer on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 2:00 p.m. in Greensboro, North Carolina, at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. The first 100 UNCG students will receive a FREE UNCG soccer scarf. It will also be the Spartans' Camper Reunion and Professor Appreciation Game. There will be a food truck in attendance.
