Women’s Soccer Welcomes Elon for Sunday Night Match
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team continues a three-game stretch against in-state foes by hosting Elon on Sunday, Sept. 8 with a 7:00 p.m. start time at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
This game will be the Spartans' Youth Team Night where the first 50 NC Fusion kids will receive a free mini ball!

SERIES HISTORY
UNCG leads the series 18-2-3. The Spartans took last year's contest with a score of 2-0 on Sept. 3, where Ava Kiss and Caroline Woods tallied the goals. The Phoenix was victorious during the 2022 season when it won 2-1 in Greensboro on Sept. 16.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
High Point claimed a 1-0 victory on Thursday night behind a first-half Olimpico goal at 37:20. Emma Malone tallied five saves for UNCG in net. The Spartans outshot the Panthers, 11-10.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
- Head Coach Stefani Workman is in her first year at the helm of the Spartans and eighth year overall with the Blue & Gold.
- The Spartans were voted to finish seventh in the 2024 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- The Spartans added six freshmen and one graduate transfer to the 2024 roster.
- Malone was most recently named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week. This was her first career weekly award.
- This was the Spartans' first SoCon Player of the Week since Oct. 28, 2022, when Nadia Wilson earned the award and first SoCon Defensive Player of the Week since Sept. 27, 2022, when Abby Buchholz earned the recognition.
- Taylor Mentzer currently leads the Spartans with two goals scored this season.
- Kiss is second on the team with three points (1 G, 1 A).
- Ryen Ortiz has chipped in an assist this season.
SCOUTING ELON
- The Phoenix concluded the 2023 season 3-9-5 overall and 2-7-3 in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).
- Elon was projected to finish 11th in the 2024 CAA Preseason Poll.
- Grace Gelhaus and Katie Lowe were both selected to the 2024 Preseason All-CAA team honorable mention.
- Elon is currently on a three-game win streak with two of the three wins coming in shutout fashion.
- The Phoenix returns its top 10 point producers from a season ago, including its four double-digit point players: Gelhaus, Lydia Totten, Ashlee Brehio and Gabby Hoschek.
- Isa Murdock is pacing the team with seven points (3 G, 1 A).
- Hoschek is second on the team with four points (1 G, 2 A) and Totten has chipped in a goal and an assist.
- Katie Bisgrove and Anna Hamner have split time in net averaging 0.67 goals against.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will head on the road to Conway, South Carolina, to face Coastal Carolina on Thursday, Sept. 12 with a 7:00 p.m. start at Coastal Carolina Soccer Stadium.
They will then return home to host Liberty on Sunday, Sept. 15 for a 1:00 p.m. start time at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
