Women’s Soccer Takes Down Wofford, 2-0, on Senior Day
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team defeated Wofford, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
This is the fourth shutout of the season for the Spartans and second-straight clean sheet after taking a 1-0 victory over Chattanooga on Sunday, Sept. 29. This is the first time since the 2018 season that UNCG is undefeated to start SoCon play. The Spartans went 6-0 to start the 2018 season and concluded it 7-2 in conference action.
Prior to the game UNCG recognized its five seniors, including Jill Ginn, Chloe Lausell, Rachel Poplin, Mel Herrera, and Lydia Hindt, as well as its senior student manager, Miriam Saterbak.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Spartans capitalized on an early opportunity as Merle Greulich cut off a pass from Wofford's defense to put UNCG up 1-0. Greulich utilized her speed and intercepted a pass from Wofford's backline to send a one-timer to the back of the net at 1:12. Thirteen minutes into the first half, Nicole Hutchinson slid into the box and blocked a shot from Wofford's Ines Obradovac keeping the Terriers off the board. The rest of the half went back and forth and UNCG went into the break with the shot advantage, 7-5.
