GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team earned its first victory of the season behind a 1-0 shutout over in-state foe Charlotte on Sunday afternoon at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.

This marks Head Coach Stefani Workman's first victory as a Division I head coach and 35th overall, with a previous four-year stint at Concord University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. UNCG outshot Charlotte, 5-3, while the 49ers had three saves to the Spartans two.

In the 63rd minute of play, Mairead Gayer dribbled the ball down the right side and cut the ball back to Ava Kiss who charged in from the top of the box. Kiss sent a one-timer to the back left corner of the net at 62:38 to give UNCG a 1-0 advantage. Emma Malone was able to fend off the 49ers five times in the second half, bringing her save total to six for a season high. One of her final saves of the game included one at 85:16 when Charlotte's Reese Black struck the ball with her left foot from the top of the box. Malone dove to her left tipping the ball over the crossbar, halting the 49ers from scoring.
