SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior goalkeeper Emma Malone of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team was named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday.

This is Malone's second weekly honor from the SoCon. She named Defensive Player of the Week back on Sept. 3. That award was the Spartans' first SoCon Player of the Week since Oct. 18, 2022, when Nadia Wilson earned the award and first Defensive Player of the Week since Sept. 27, 2022, when Abby Buchholz earned the recognition.

Malone assisted the Spartans to a 1-0 week, earning UNCG's third shutout of the season on Sunday in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at Finley Stadium. The junior tallied five saves in the 1-0 victory. This was her third shutout of the season and seventh of her career.

Among the SoCon this season, Malone is third in goals against average (1.048) and shutouts (3) and tied for sixth in total saves (34).

"I am incredibly honored to receive this award for the second time this season," stated Malone. "Putting up a zero is crucial at this point in the season and with the help of my team, especially the back line, we are able to accomplish just that. I am happy to do my part in helping this team be successful with so much more to come!"
