Women’s Soccer to Take on In-State Foe East Carolina on Thursday
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team will travel to Greenville, North Carolina on Thursday to battle in-state foe East Carolina at Johnson Stadium with a start time of 7:00 p.m.

The Pirates and Spartans are tied with four wins apiece in the series history. East Carolina won the last contest 1-0 in Greensboro on September 17, 2023.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
UNCG opened the 2024 season with a 1-1 draw against UNCW on Sunday. Taylor Mentzer scored the Spartans' first goal of the season, while Ava Kiss had the first helper. UNCG held the advantage in shots 10-3, while UNCW had 10 corner kicks to the Spartans' three.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
- This will be Head Coach Stefani Workman's first year at the helm with the Spartans, but eighth year with the Blue & Gold.
- UNCG finished 7-9-3 overall last season and 4-4-1 in The Southern Conference (SoCon).
- The Spartans were voted to finish seventh in the 2024 SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll.
- Mentzer tied for first in goals scored last season. She scored a career-best five goals.
- Also returning is Haydan Erck, who led the Spartans with three assists.
- In net, Emma Malone started and played in 17 games last season and had 1.42 goals against average. Over her two years with the Spartans, she averages 1.322 goals against.
- The Spartans added six freshman and one graduate transfer to the 2024 roster.
SCOUTING EAST CAROLINA
- East Carolina concluded the 2023 season with a 9-5-5 overall record and a 4-2-3 mark in conference play finishing in fourth place in the American Athletic Conference.
- The Pirates have been selected third in the 2024 American Preseason Poll.
- Three Pirates were named to the American's Preseason Watch List: Annabelle Abbott, Maeve English and Samantha Moxie.
- East Carolina opened the 2024 season with a 1-0 shutout over NC State on Sunday in Raleigh, North Carolina.
- Sowa was named American Defensive Player of the Week for scoring the lone goal in the victory.
- English returns for another year in goal after posting 1.07 goals against with 57 saves.
- Sydney Schnell also returns and had five goals and three assists last season.
- East Carolina added nine newcomers this season, which includes six freshmen and three transfer players.
