Coastal Carolina Hits Past Softball, 9-1

CONWAY, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell to non-conference foe Coastal Carolina, 9-1, in five innings on Tuesday at St. John Stadium.

  • The Spartans saw one runner in the top of the first, but the Chanticleers retired the side.
  • Coastal Carolina put a run on the board in the bottom of the frame as Georgia Hood doubled down the left field line, 1-0.
  • In the bottom of the third, Coastal Carolina extended its lead to 3-0 as Maddy Jennings singled and drove in a run before an error caused another run to cross home plate.
  • Libby Pippin crushed a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth with two outs for a 4-0 advantage.
  • UNCG pushed across its first run in the top of the fifth.
  • With one out, Samantha Beck doubled to right field and stole third to get in scoring position for Rylie Williams' sacrifice fly, cutting the deficit to three, 4-1.
  • The Chanticleers broke the game open with five runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Coastal Carolina saw back-to-back solo home runs, a RBI double and two RBI singles to secure a 9-1 five-inning win.
