Softball Bounces Back with 14-6 Win Over Chattanooga
CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team bounced back with a 14-6 victory over The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Chattanooga on Sunday at Frost Stadium.
The Spartans totaled 15 hits in the game which is the 13th contest this season with double figure hits. It is tied for the second most this season.
- UNCG put three runs up on the scoreboard off three hits in the top of the first for a 3-0 lead.
- With the bases loaded, Betsy Eatmon hit a two-run single and then Jorde Chartrand scored on a passed ball for the third run.
- Chattanooga cut the deficit to two in the bottom half of the frame, as Olivia Lipari reached on an error and Kailey Snell scored from second, 3-1.
- After a scoreless second inning, the Spartans broke open the game with four runs on three hits for a 7-1 advantage.
- Grace Loftin crushed a solo home run with one out and then Hadley Gardner sent one out for a three-run blast over the center field wall.
- The Mocs responded with one run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Acelynn Sellers, 7-2.
- The Spartans extended their lead to six, 8-2, in the top of the fourth after Chartrand doubled down the right field line and Loftin scored on an error.
- Chattanooga had its best inning in the bottom of the fifth scoring four runs on three hits and one error to cut the deficit to two, 8-6.
- Both teams put runners on the bases in the sixth but neither were able to push them across.
- The Spartans' bats came alive once more in the top of the seventh with six runs on seven hits in the top of the seventh.
- Jessie Shipley drove in two runs on a double down the left field line and Samantha Beck followed with a two-run homer.
- Chartrand connected for her own two-run home run with one out for the final runs of the inning, 14-6.
- Chartrand, who was in the circle pitching in relief, retired the side stranding one Moc on base to hold on for the win.

- Four Spartans had a multi-hit game, while five had a multi-RBI game.
- Loftin went 4-for-4 with four runs scored, one RBI, one walk, two doubles and one home run.
- Loftin tallied her eighth homer of the season and 37th blast of her career.
- Eatmon went 3-for-3 with two RBI, one walk and a double.
- Beck went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBI and a home run.
- Beck crushed her fourth homer of the season and ninth of her career.
- Chartrand went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, two RBI, three walks, a double and a home run.
- This was her fifth homer of the season and 19th of her career.
- Gardner tallied her sixth home run of the season.

The Spartans will return home to Greensboro for a five-game home stand, beginning with Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and in-state foe North Carolina on Wednesday, March 26. UNCG and the Tar Heels will play at the UNCG Softball Stadium with a first pitch scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
