Beck’s 2-Run Double Leads Spartans in 2-1 Win Over Wofford
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team came from behind to take a 2-1 Southern Conference (SoCon) victory over Wofford on Friday evening at UNCG Softball Stadium.
With the win, UNCG improves to 24-10 overall and 2-2 in conference, while Wofford fell to 19-12 overall and 2-2 in the SoCon.
- Wofford put the first run up in the top of the first for a 1-0 lead.
- With a runner on third and two outs following a double play by the Spartans, Ingle singled up the middle to score Platte to put the Terriers up, 1-0.
- UNCG saw its first runner on base in the bottom of the second, but Wofford got out of the frame.
- Both teams saw runners in scoring position in the third inning, but defense was present in the frame.
- Following a scoreless fourth inning and Wofford stranding two on base in the top of the fifth, UNCG took over the lead in the bottom of the fifth.
- With two outs and runners on first and third, Samantha Beck took a 1-2 count deep into left center for a two-run double, giving the Spartans a 2-1 lead.
- Both teams threatened in the sixth inning, as the Terriers stranded two runners and the Spartans left the bases loaded.
- Jorde Chartrand entered in relief in the circle for Salem Ward and retired three-straight batters on a ground out, strikeout and fly out to secure the win in the top of the seventh.

- Five different Spartans tallied a hit in the game.
- Beck went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a double.
- Jessie Shipley scored one run.
- Ward went 1-for-2 with one runs scored.
- Ward gave up six hits in 6.0 innings of work, while striking out four batters.
