Softball Falls to North Carolina in Midweek Battle
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell to in-state and Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) foe North Carolina, 15-5, on Wednesday at UNCG Softball Stadium.
The Spartans totaled 12 hits in the game which is the 14th contest this season with double figure hits.
- After the Tar Heels threatened with two runners on in the top of the first, the Spartans took a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the frame.
- Grace Loftin crushed a 3-1 count over the left-center wall for her ninth homer of the season putting the Spartans on top.
- Both teams went scoreless in the second inning, but Carolina took over the lead in the top of the third, scoring two runs on four hits, 2-1.
- Jorde Chartrand didn't let the lead live long, as she blasted a two-run home run to center field, putting UNCG up 3-2. Chartrand hit her sixth homer of the season.
- Carolina once again stranded two runners on base, as Jessie Shipley made a long-range catch in foul territory for the final out in the top of the fourth.
- With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Shipley hit a RBI single to left field, driving home Hadley Gardner for a two-run lead, 4-2.
- North Carolina tied the game at four in the top of the fifth with two solo home runs and then scored three runs in the top of the sixth for a 7-4 advantage.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Macy Michael crushed a solo home run to center field cutting the deficit to two, 7-5.
- The Tar Heels broke open the game with eight runs on five hits in the top of the seventh to give them a 10-run gap, 15-5. UNC held on for the win as UNCG saw just one runner in the bottom of the seventh.

- Three Spartans had a multi-hit game.
- Loftin went 2-for-4 with one run scored, one RBI and one home run.
- Loftin tallied her ninth homer of the season and 38th blast of her career.
- Chartrand went 3-for-4 with one run scored, two RBI, a double and a home run.
- Chartrand hit her sixth homer of the season and 20th of her career.
- Gardner went 2-for-3 with one run scored.
- Shipley and Michael tallied one RBI each.

The Spartans will continue their home slate with a three-game series against Wofford this weekend. UNCG and the Terriers will play a single game on Frida starting at 4:00 p.m. and the two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m. at the UNCG Softball Stadium. Saturday's promotion is Military Appreciation.
All regular season softball home games are free admission. The concessions at UNCG Softball Stadium are now open. Bringing in outside food is not permitted and pets are not allowed into the stadium.
