Softball Falls to Michigan, Claims Win Over NC Central

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell in a 9-2 battle with Michigan before claiming a 4-1 victory over NC Central on Saturday at the UNCG Softball Stadium.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell in a 9-2 battle with Michigan before claiming a 4-1 victory over NC Central on Saturday at the UNCG Softball Stadium.
 
GAME 1: Michigan 9 - UNCG 2

  • The Wolverines posted the first run of the game with a RBI single up the middle in the top of the first, 1-0.
  • Michigan held the 1-0 advantage until the fifth inning when Ella Stephenson hit a three-run home run to left field for a 4-0 advantage.
  • The Wolverines added two more runs in the sixth off a two-run homer and three in the seventh from a three-run home run from Madi Ramey for a 9-0 lead.
  • UNCG got on the board with two runs in the seventh.
  • First, Hadley Gardner singled to left field to score Samantha Beck before Kaylyn Belfield hit a single up the middle to bring in Macy Michael. However, Michigan was able to hold on for the 9-2 win.
  • Beck and Gardner led the Spartans with two hits apiece.
  • Salem Ward paced UNCG in the circle with three strikeouts.

GAME 2: UNCG 4 – NC Central 1

  • Jessie Shipley launched her seventh homer of the season and 31st of her career in the first inning to put UNCG up 1-0.
  • NC Central tied things up, 1-1, in the second when Krupey singled through the left side to drive in a run.
  • UNCG regained the lead with three runs in the fourth inning.
  • Meredith Harwood singled to center field to bring in Jorde Chartrand for the 2-1 lead.
  • Nya South later singled up the middle in her first pitch of the at bat for two RBI, scoring Harwood and Gardner, 4-1.
  • Five different Spartans collected a hit in the game.
  • South led the game with two RBI.
  • Ward recorded her second save of the season.
  • Addy Berry led the way with two strikeouts.
