ELON, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell to Ohio State, 10-6, on Friday night at Hunt Softball Complex in its second game of the Elon Softball Classic
 
The Spartans tallied double-digit hits for the second-straight game.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Spartans connected for the first hit of the game as Hadley Gardner doubled to left center in the bottom of the first, but neither team scored in the first two innings.
 
UNCG put the first tally on the board in the bottom of the third with Meredith Harwood's double to left field that scored Macy Michael from second, 1-0.
 
Ohio State responded with four runs on four hits in the top of the fourth for a 4-1 advantage. With two outs, Tanaya Barrett singled and advanced on the throw bringing home three runs. The fourth run was scored on a strikeout passed ball.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, UNCG saw Kaylyn Belfield connect at the plate for a RBI triple and then with the bases loaded, Michael walked to cut the deficit to one, 4-3.
 
Neither team was able to push a run across in the fifth but both threatened with runners.
 
With two outs and runners on first and second in the top of the sixth, the Buckeyes' Sami Bewick singled to left field driving home Barrett and the trailing runner was thrown out at the plate by Gardner from left field giving Ohio State a 5-3 advantage.
 
The Spartans tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on two runs and two hits. With Gardner on first, Grace Loftin drove her across home on a double to right center. Harwood then walked to put runners on first and second and Jorde Chartrand tied the game with a RBI single up the middle, 5-5.
 
Ohio State doubled its score in the top of the seventh on seven hits to take a 10-5 lead. The Spartans were able to put one more run on the board in the bottom of the frame with Rylie Williams' solo homer over the center field wall as the Buckeyes claimed the win, 10-6. This was her first home run of the season and third of her career.
