Beck & Loftin Hit Homers in 4-3 Victory Over NC State
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team came from behind for a 4-3 victory over NC State on Wednesday at the UNCG Softball Stadium in non-conference action.
This was the first victory over the Wolfpack since April 3, 2019, when the Spartans won 2-1 in Greensboro. This is the first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) win for the Spartans since Feb. 27, 2022, when UNCG beat Virginia, 6-4, in Greensboro.
UNCG improves to 27-10 and NC State falls to 21-16.
- NC State began the game with the bases loaded after a couple of walks.
- Following two outs, MaKayla Marbury's hit to left field gave the Wolfpack a 2-0 advantage before the Spartans retired the side with a play at third base.
- UNCG began the bottom of the first with two outs, but soon loaded the bases before NC State retired the side, leaving the bases juiced.
- Both teams went down three-straight in the second inning.
- The Spartans cut the deficit in half, 2-1, with Samantha Beck's solo home run to center field in the bottom of the third.
- After another three-up, three-down fourth inning, Jorde Chartrand sat down the next three batters in the top of the fifth.
- In the bottom of the frame, Macy Michael began the inning with a double down the left field line and moved over to third on a ground out.
- With runners on first and third with two outs, Grace Loftin chose the third pitch of her at bat and sent it far over the center field wall for a three-run homer, putting the Spartans up 4-2.
- In leadoff, Taylor Ensley selected the third pitch of her at bat in the top of the sixth to send it over the right center wall closing the gap to one, 4-3.
- After a throwing error by the Spartans in the top of the third, the Wolfpack had runners on the corners before Chartrand held on for the win by retiring three-straight batters for her fifth win of the season.

- Beck went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, one RBI and one home run.
- She crushed her fifth home run of the season and 10th of her career.
- Loftin hit 1-for-3 at the plate with one run scored, three RBI and a homer.
- She tallied her 10th homer of the season and 39th of her career.
- Chartrand tossed her second complete game of the season, allowing just three hits and three earned runs with one strikeout.
- Chartrand and Michael each had a hit to complete the Spartans' five hits in the game.

UNCG will hit the road for four games, starting with a three-game series against Furman in Greenville, South Carolina. The Paladins and Spartans will play a single game on Friday with a first pitch at 6:00 p.m. at Pepsi Stadium. UNCG and Furman will conclude the weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m.
