Women’s Tennis Drops Home-Opening Battle with Campbell, 4-3
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team fell in a 4-3 battle with Campbell on Saturday afternoon in its 2025 home opener at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
"This is a match we lost 7-0 one year ago," said Head Coach Mat Iandolo. "We are building and have a lot to look forward to."
Sydney Bly and Luna Urso registered the first win of the day with a 6-4 victory over Ofer Kivity and Sandra Mari Marti on court three. Alexandra Dodashev and Olivia Gallagher secured the doubles point for the Spartans after defeating Deren Ozel and Veronika Prospalova, 7-5, on court one. Elisabeth Birkevold and Lauren Thomson's doubles contest with Mollie Garcia and Sonia Pieczynska remained unfinished on court two, 5-5, as the Spartans went into singles play on top, 1-0.
Campbell got on the board first in singles play when Ozel defeated Bly, 6-4, 6-1, on court four. However, Birkevold put UNCG back on top, 2-1, with a 6-2, 6-3, win over Prospalova on court five. On court three, Thomson widened UNCG's lead at 3-1 after defeating Kivity, 7-6, 6-4. However, Campbell secured the next three matches for the 4-3 win. Pieczynska earned a battle over Gallagher, 6-2, 7-6, on court one. Mari Marti tied up the match, 3-3, after gaining a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, win over Urso on court six. Mollie Garcia secured the match-clinching point for the Camels in a 6-2, 6-7, 6-1, win over Dodashev on court two for the 4-3 win.
