Women’s Tennis Falls to Mercer, 5-2

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team fell in a 5-2 matchup with Mercer in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action on Thursday at the UNCG Tennis Courts

"We are getting better with every match," said Head Coach Mat Iandolo. "We just didn't put enough scoreboard pressure on them today. I am so pleased with Lauren & Alexandra's work today!"
 
Mercer tallied the first point of the day after securing the doubles tally. Jelena Gojkovia and Tea Zivic defeated Elisabeth Birkevold and Lauren Thomson, 6-0, on court three before Marina Quinones and Ines Homberg secured a 6-4 win over Alexandra Dodashev and Olivia Gallagher on court one. Sydney Bly and Raegan Mitchell notched a 7-5 win over Emilia Cosatto and Dzhastina Mikhnova, 7-5, but Mercer was able to head into singles play on top, 1-0.
 
Quinones put Mercer up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-0, win over Gallagher on court one. Dodashev got UNCG on the board after securing a 6-1, 6-4 win over Mikhnova on court two to pull the Spartans within one, 2-1. Marie Bannmeyer put the Bears back up by two when she defeated Mitchell, 6-4, 6-2 on court four. Gojkovis clinched the match for the Spartans when she defeated Bly, 6-4, 7-5 on court five. Lea Kozierowski gave Mercer its final point of the day in a 6-2, 7-5 win over Elisabeth Birkevold on court six. Thomson gave UNCG a second point when she defeated Zivic in a three-set battle, 5-7, 7-5, 11-9, but Mercer walked away with the 5-2 victory.
