Women’s Tennis Drops 6-1 Battle with Western Carolina

CULLOWHEE, N.C.  – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 battle with the Catamounts of Western Carolina in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action on Saturday afternoon at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

CULLOWHEE, N.C.  – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 battle with the Catamounts of Western Carolina in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action on Saturday afternoon at the Catamount Athletic Complex. 

Western Carolina tallied the first point of the day after securing two of three doubles contests. Madison Schwarz and Angela Perez defeated Elisabeth Birkevold and Ella Olexa, 6-2, on court three. Sydney Bly and Raegan Mitchell tied up doubles with a 6-4 win over Andrea Redondo and Isabella Sambola on court two. However, Western Carolina's Jade Groen and Chloe Schwarz notched a 1-0 lead for the Catamounts after defeating Olivia Gallagher and Lauren Thomson, 7-5, on court one.

Western Carolina continued its momentum into singles play by winning the first five matchups for a 6-0 lead. Groen notched a 6-3, 6-0, win over Gallagher on court one. Sambola granted the Catamounts with a 3-0 advantage after defeating Thomson, 6-2, 6-0, on court two. Chloe Schwarz clinched the match for Western Carolina after defeating Mitchell, 6-3, 6-0 on court three. Lui Hokualohi secured a 6-3, 6-2, win over Olexa on court six for a 5-0 advantage. Perez granted the Catamounts with their final point of the day with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Birkevold on court five. Bly put the Spartans on the board after securing a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7) battle over Madison Schwarz on court four, but Western Carolina was able to secure the 6-1 victory.
